Day 1 – Arrival
Today’s the day! We’re jetting off to Costa Rica, the happiest country in Latin America. Let us take the hassle out of travel as you meet your tour director at Denver International Airport for a comfortable flight to the tropics.
Upon landing in San Jose, you’ll be greeted by American River Cultural Exchange, clearly identifiable with their sign.
From there, you’ll be whisked away in our private air-conditioned transportation to a charming hotel in Tamarindo. Upon arrival, the evening is yours to enjoy – roam the vibrant town or rest up for the adventures that await you next day. An unforgettable journey is about to unfold.
Day 2 – Palo Verde River
Awake to a lovely breakfast before you dive into an authentic Costa Rican experience over the next few days, encompassing ranching, farming, and local culture. Today’s highlight is a half-day boat tour along the country’s longest river on the northwest side, Palo Verde, a haven for wildlife and birdwatching enthusiasts.
Expect to encounter a myriad of wildlife including crocodiles, monkeys, bats, and over 300 species of birds – it’s a spectacle as hundreds of thousands of birds flock here during the fall and winter. The day concludes with a show of traditional Costa Rican customs and a delicious local lunch at a ranch. Prepare to be immersed in the heart of Costa Rican biodiversity and culture.
Day 3 – Palo Verde and Ranching
Kickstart your day with a hearty breakfast before venturing into the heart of a local community, delving into Costa Rican ranching, farming, and unique culture. Embark on a wildlife exploration on the Tempisque River at Palo Verde, witnessing an array of exotic animals and over 300 bird species.
As the river’s landscape transforms seasonally, it attracts a multitude of wading birds and waterfowl. The day culminates with a traditional Costa Rican showcase and a local ranch lunch, offering an immersive cultural experience.
Day 4 – Rain Forest Adventure
On this free day, opt for an immersive rainforest experience. Venture to a reserve nestled in the lower slopes of the Tenorio volcano, perfect for spotting sloths, toucans, monkeys and more amidst a tranquil setting. Indulge in the sweet rainforest offerings with a chocolate and coffee tour, delving into their ancient secrets and modern processing.
Lastly, don’t forget your swimsuits for a refreshing dip in a gorgeous waterfall, a perfect conclusion to an adventure-filled day.
Day 5 – Explore Tamarindo
Take advantage of a free day in Tamarindo with an optional half-day sport fishing tour, a must-try in the renowned fishing hotspot of Guanacaste. Just 10 miles from the beach, you’ll have the opportunity to catch a variety of species including sailfish, marlin, Mahi Mahi and more.
Your experienced team ensures a top-quality fishing experience for both professionals and beginners. For those not partaking, relish a day of pure relaxation in the beautiful surroundings of Tamarindo.
Day 6 – Boat Tour / Zip Line
Get set for a day of thrilling adventures in the heart of Northern Guanacaste! Beginning with a journey to the vicinity of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, we’ll plunge into an exciting canopy tour led by experienced guides.
Zip through the treetops, delight in a bird’s eye view of Costa Rica’s rich flora and fauna, and get your adrenaline pumping. The adventure doesn’t stop there, with a natural spa, mud baths, horseback riding, and much more to explore! Experience the mesmerizing beauty of Costa Rica in a truly exhilarating way!
Day 7 – Ocean Sailing & Snorkeling
Brace yourself for an unforgettable journey along the stunning Pacific coast of Guanacaste. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on a private boat ride, sailing towards a secluded cove and beach. As we explore the waters of the Gulf of Papagayo and Snake Bay, delight in a gourmet lunch and refreshing drinks on a nearby beach.
Spend the rest of your day snorkeling, lounging on the beach, or strolling through nature, with the famous “Gorilla Rock” as your backdrop. Keep an eye out – if we’re lucky, we might even spot dolphins, sea turtles, and more marine life. Truly an idyllic experience not to be missed!
Day 8 – Coco Beach
Take advantage of a free day by indulging in the splendid delights of Coco Beach! Known for its vibrant atmosphere and warm, inviting waters, Coco Beach offers a unique blend of relaxation and excitement. Whether you fancy a dip in the Pacific or strolling along the scenic beachfront, this destination guarantees an enjoyable day.
For the enthusiasts, we also offer an exclusive brewery tour! You’ll get to delve into the art of brewing, tasting some exquisite local craft beers. Day 9 – Travel to San Jose
As we embark on our scenic journey back to San Jose, we’ll enjoy a series of enchanting pit stops to enhance our travel experience. This unique route offers fresh insights even for our veteran Costa Rican explorers with ARCE.
Upon arrival in the bustling capital, we’ll savor a delightful dinner, taking in the city’s vibrant atmosphere before we settle in for a restful night, recharging for our impending journey home. This day is about unwinding and reflecting on the exceptional adventure we’ve had!
Day 10 – Departure
As our wonderful Costa Rican journey comes to an end, we reflect on the wealth of experiences we’ve shared. From the sun-kissed beaches to the lush rainforests, each day brought a new adventure that enriched our understanding of this vibrant country. Our days were filled with diverse activities, thrilling wildlife encounters, cultural immersion, and the opportunity to meet warm and welcoming locals.
